Snapchat’s Bitmoji Avatars Get 3D Upgrade Now in US

Starting today, Snapchat users can enable Bitmoji 3D avatars on their profile, giving them a more refined and dynamic version of the 2D avatars that many people use on the platform. The 3D version of Bitmoji supports the same wide range of clothing, expressions, and more that you can access on the 2D version, but with the benefit of new body poses and a more modern appearance.
If you’re on Snapchat, there’s a good chance you have a custom Bitmoji avatar. Users can create the 2D character in their own image, including everything from the hairstyle to the folds in their face. A number of partner brands have embarked on the popular avatar system, adding their own products as a means of promoting them.
For example, you can outfit your Bitmoji avatar with a pair of Adidas shoes and a Vans t-shirt. The same goes for the 3D version of the avatars which, as reported Hollywood journalist, offers over 1,200 different style combinations including gestures, poses, facial expressions and background.
Snap rolls out new support for Snapchat users in the US; At the time of publication, we were unable to access the feature ourselves, so it’s unclear how long some users may have to wait to access the new option. It’s also unclear if users will be able to stick to their 2D avatar at this time.
With the new variety of dynamic and more ‘realistic’ Bitmoji avatars, we could see Snap expanding its partnerships with brands to promote more clothing through these digital representations. Bitmoji has tried 3D versions of its popular 2D avatars before, including the 3D versions available in some games and as augmented reality overlays.
